  • BHS Serves Second Chance Breakfast
Buffalo High School has started an alternative breakfast program called Second Chance Breakfast. The regular hot breakfast is still served at the normal time, prior to the start of the school day, but students have a second chance for breakfast after first hour by passing through the cafeteria for a grab and go breakfast packed in a paper sack and head to their second hour class where they can eat their breakfast. Students are limited to a single school breakfast. Eating a healthy breakfast before starting the school day is linked to improved concentration, better test scores, increased energy, a higher intake of vitamins and minerals, and even a healthier body weight.

Students are charged the same price for the second chance breakfast as the regular hot breakfast. The second chance breakfast meets the USDA meal guidelines. The school district would like to serve breakfast to all high schools students free of charge, like the Mallory elementary program, to encourage as many as students as possible to eat a healthy breakfast. The universal free breakfast would be funded through the USDA meal reimbursements. In order for this to be feasible for the school district, the high school would like to see if it can increase its free and reduced meals eligibility. The cafeteria staff will be sending home free and reduced meals applications with students who are not currently receiving free or reduced meals. Please complete the form and return it to the high school office by Friday, February 1. If your student does not bring a form home for you, you can access the form on the bisonpride.org website on the Departments Channel, in the Food Service section. Thank you for your help in our efforts to serve more students a healthy breakfast.
