DCR1 Students Will Return to In-Person Classes Five Days Per Week-April 7, 2021

Students in the Dallas County School District have been completing their lessons by alternative methods on Wednesdays since the district revised and implemented the Orange Phase October 19, 2020. One protocol of the Orange Phase included reducing contact and increasing cleaning and sanitizing on Wednesdays. As the Covid-19 positive cases among school staff and students have remained at zero and positive cases in the county remained very low for a few weeks, DCR1 Superintendent, Dr. Tim Ryan consulted with local health officials and determined that students could safely return to in-person classes on Wednesdays. Students will be out of school for Easter break Friday, April 2 through Monday, April 4, 2021. When students return from Easter break, they will also return to in-person classes five days per week. School will be in-session and in-person on Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday, April 7. Students will no longer complete lessons at home on Wednesdays by alternative methods, as long as positive Covid-19 cases remain very low.

Reopening Plan Revised-October 13, 2020

As we work through COVID-19 this school year, we realize the spread of the virus is not occurring at school; however, with our current phase of the reopening plan, the hybrid model is having a negative impact on student academic progress.  With our current safety measures and the recently installed additional plexiglass dividers in classrooms, where social distancing could not be maintained, we have reached a higher level of safety.  With all of our safety measures and the knowledge that any spread of COVID is not occurring in our schools, we will be changing our reopening plan beginning Monday, October 19th.  We will be in the Orange phase of this new plan which has similar protocols to our current Orange phase with one primary change.  The revised plan has an Orange phase where all students are present in school Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays where school is scheduled to be in session.  Instruction is to continue via AMI-X/ Virtual on Wednesdays. The revised plan is attached to the email sent along with this message and posted on bisonpride.org.  The challenge we are facing this year is to find a balance between the safety of our schools and the academic progress of our students.

Sincerely,
Dr. Tim Ryan, Superintendent
