Mrs. Jacque Rice Honored as Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year

The Dallas County School District is proud to announce that Mrs. Jacque Rice, technology and business teacher has been named a Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year for the Agency for Teaching, Leading, and Learning. 

Mrs. Rice was selected as the Dallas County Schools Teacher of the Year, 2017. She was nominated by student, Colby Wise. Colby wrote:  “I believe my teacher should be nominated for teacher of the year because she has helped all of her students, to what I think, is the fullest extent. She believes in all of the kids here even when they don't. That is why I think she should be the Teacher of the Year.” Mrs. Rice has taught for 20 years. She has taught all of her years in the Dallas County School District. She has been teaching at the Buffalo Prairie Middle School all subjects in the fifth grade, fifth through eighth grade computers, and seventh and eighth grades digital media and yearbook. She will transition to teaching business education at Buffalo High School this school year. Mrs. Rice is an outstanding teacher who has also sponsored the BPMS Student Council for many years. 

The Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year award is part of the Missouri Teacher of the Year program, sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The Missouri Teacher of the Year program recognizes the efforts of effective teachers in providing a quality education to their students. Preparing, developing and support effective educators is one of DESE’s primary goals.

 Mrs. Rice is eligible to compete for Missouri Teacher of the year for 2018. The selection committee, comprised of teacher, business leaders and education organization leaders, will choose the Missouri Teacher of the Year following interviews with each finalist this fall. The winner and the finalists will be honored at a banquet in August in Jefferson City.  The new Missouri Teacher of the Year will serve as the state’s nominee for the National Teacher of the Year competition. 

The Missouri Teacher of the Year program is conducted with financial support by the Boeing Company and the Monsanto Fund.
