21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Pushes Through

It has been a whirlwind of a year for the 21st CCLC grant. We began with a late start in October due to a late grant awarding. We hit the ground running with offering morning programming which is new this year, as well as our after school at Mallory and Buffalo Prairie Middle School. We have offered cooking classes, guitar, ukulele classes, nature, piano, book clubs and coding classes. We offer homework help, tutoring and walking club after school and in the morning. This is only a select few of our broad array of enrichment activities. Prime Time as well offers many clubs and fun enrichment each day after school which is contracted by the Dallas County YMCA.

We dealt with many snow days and cancellations and felt we were missing more time than attending our before and after school and then along came the school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have missed being in before and after school with our wonderful students more than we can explain.

The first week of April we began sending projects home in the mail. There have been straw rockets, flower and vegetable seeds, stress balls, and Social and Emotional activities just to name a few. We hope that these brought a little excitement and joy to the student’s weeks.

We had a Lego boat challenge, where three students one top prizes. Congrats to them! Virtual Science Fair going on now. There are book readings and many things posted daily on the Bison Academy Face Book page. Make sure you are following us!

Make sure if you are a Kindergarten or First Grade Prime Time student to follow DCR-1 Little Bison After School for fun learning activities as well.

You are missed and you are loved. We love our 21st CCLC grant students as well as all the students of Dallas County!
