DCTC Offers Adult Education
DCTC Offers Adult Education
Over the last couple of years as we have been planning and building the new Dallas County Technical Center (DCTC) one of the most commonly asked questions is when will we begin offering adult education classes. In the past, when we offered adult classes at the Louisburg facility we were not able to make many of the courses work. Even though 1-5 individuals would have an interest in a class, these numbers did not justify hiring a teacher for the course; consequently, adult education classes at the Louisburg facility did not happen. We continue to maintain a relationship with Ed2Go to offer online coursework for adults; however, the tuition is not set by us, it is set by the vendor.
To answer this request for adult classes we have reevaluated the option of adults taking daytime classes alongside our high school students at DCTC. As a Career and Technical Center, we are able to enroll adults in the classes and those individuals can obtain the same training and certifications as our high school students. The programs offered at our technical center for adult enrollment are: Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Information Technology and Cybersecurity, Construction Technology, Criminal Justice, Graphic Design Print Technology, Health Science, Teacher Education Preparation, and Welding. Each of these programs are a two year half day program or a one-year full day program except Teacher Preparation which is a one year half day program. At the March meeting of the board of education we set the adult tuition rate at $2200/year for a half day class or $4400/year for a full day class. We are currently working with the Missouri Jobs Center to gain access to Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funding for adult students. These funds could be applied for by the adult students to assist with their program tuition at DCTC.
Adult enrollment will be allowed in courses with available space after high school student enrollment is complete. Adults enrolling in daytime courses need to complete a program application, take a Missouri Highway Patrol fingerprint background check and be approved by the administration. For more information on each program please visit the program tab on the DCTC website at bisonpride.org/DCTC. For further information on the adult enrollment process, or to complete an application for adult enrollment, please contact Dallas County Technical Center at 417-345-1460 or visit the Community Education page on the bisonpride.org website. Plans for evening adult education classes are being developed and more information should be released next school year. Suggestions for evening classes are being accepted under the community education tab on the school website.
